Question: How does one make a smooth transition as you do in your one plane swing? Golfingly, Larry Answer: The key to mastering the transition is to understand exactly what the transition IS. The transition is the “change of direction” from the back swing to the down swing. To get a feel for the timing of a “perfect” transition I recommend tossing a ball up in the air just above head high a couple of times. You will begin to see that there is a moment where the ball is traveling neither up nor down. This ball tossing exercise is an example of a transition occurring perfectly in nature. When the ball is floating in this state, I like to think that it is finding a moment of “quiet” within its journey. When I incorporate this concept into my golf swing I think of the top of my swing as being just that: “quiet,” “slow,” and above all things “patient.”
I have also found great success imagining my swing as a movie that literally drops into “slow” motion as I enter my transition. Slow like molasses dripping down a tree, I find that by holding back just a bit at the top, I get a lot more bang for my buck at the bottom! I hope this helps! Jeff |
