Question:

Hi Jeff.

Do you feel that if you have a tendency towards a naturally flat swing that going the one plane route will be better long term?

I have tried two plane for the

longest time and feel I'm fighting my natural tendencies.

Looking at your fantastic one plane action it looks a simple and repeatable method!

Jeff Answers:

Realize that for any golf swing to work, then it must have a perfectly balanced number of "steepening vs shallowing" influences. In your case, since you are already on the flatter side of things with your swing plane, you need to make sure that the corresponding tilt of your spine angle is "steep" enough so that even with your shallow plane you are able to create enough of a descending blow on the ball for proper bottom of swing arc and compression.

Another steepening influence often used by One Plane swingers is to stay very centered with their turn. This many times is accomplished by keeping the weight favoring the front foot throughout the motion vs. feeling a shift away and then back towards the target.

Finally, keep in mind that as a One Plane swinger your left arm should still be closely aligned with your right shoulder at the completion of the back swing. If you find your left arm well below the shoulder, then I would recommend steepening the left arm swing a bit as well. As with anything, be sure you are getting good positive feedback with plenty of mirror work and periodic video to ensure that your feel and reality are matching up!

Hope this helps!

Jeff
